EVERY YOUNG GIRL'S DREAM?
01/04/2010 - 30/04/2010Gülin Hayat Topdemir
Gülin Hayat Topdemir’s ‘Every Young Girl’s Dream?’ exhibition will be exposed between April 1-30, 2010 at Casa Dell’Arte Gallery. With this exhibition Gülin Hayat Topdemir is reinterpreting the concept of ‘Being a Bride’.
Have you ever seen a man who dreams of fairy tale wedding or imagine himself as a leading man, plan his wedding for ages and choose his outfit? Finding the one to share your life with and celebrating this affirmation socially and officially with overblown symbols has been a very peculiar dream of women for ages. As a woman, Gülin Hayat Topdemir is also questioning this naturally accepted dream in her new works.
Independent from place, the psychological heaviness of skillfully painted women bodies takes us out to a journey depressive and anxious at times. Unfortunately we know that hopeful journeys with a white dress & red belt do not always lead to happy endings. With this exhibition Gülin Hayat Topdemir is calling out to the Italian artist Picca Bacca who went to a journey with her wedding dress which costed her life.
