“WHERE IS MY PRIVACY?”
Curated by Denizhan Ozer, Casa dell’Arte presents “Where is my Privacy”, an exhibition showing 25 Turkish and International artists.
Throughout the exhibition the following artists will explore the dynamics involved behind the concept of privacy, and will attempt to give an answer to the issue from within their culture and personal experience:
Anna Maria Pinaka, Bader Al Awadhi, Ceren Selmanpakoglu, Ernest Kurtveliev, Herve Szydlowski, Jacques Crenn, Joachim Seinfeld, Johanne Helard, Kai Bornhoft, Lale Altinel, Lebriz Rona, Lionel Loetscher, Lorraine Field, Miriam Reer, Mustafa Horasan, Orhan Tekin, Ozgur Korkmazgil, Paolo Maria Giannotti, Pertev Emre Tastaban, Resul Aytemur, Selahattin Yildirim, Tomur Atagok, Yildiz Doyran, Yildiz Yuksel.
The exhibition focuses on evaluating the artists’ reactions (whether personal or representing their own culture) with regards to an excess of controll over people’s private lives.
“People who are controlling the system are using every possible way in order to preserve their power. They do so by monitoring people and gathering information about them, with the excuse of offering comfort and safety to ordinary people”.
“When we look at the world of images that surrounds us, we can see this as the result of visual ideology. Therefore it is the business of those in power to track, monitor and record us, to take our fingerprints and use them when necessary. Everything must be tracked and monitored. There is no such thing as a private life. In order to know everything there is to know, those in power are openly monitoring all details of our personal lives, paying no heed to whether it’s necessary or not.”
The exhibition raises questions such as whether it is ethically right to be constantly monitored, documented and archived; and it also offers alternative ways of preserving one’s own privacy.
